Chapters build on explanations of key elements of statutory language, such as the distinction between what is said and what is implicated, the possibility of ascribing truth-values to legal prescriptions and the structure of legal inferences, the various forms of vagueness in the law, the distinctions between vagueness, ambiguity, and polysemy in legal language, and the distinction between concept and conceptions, mostly in the context of constitutional interpretation. The book demonstrates that paying close attention to the kind of speech acts legal directives are, and how they determine the content of the law, enables a better understanding of the boundaries between normative and linguistic determinants of legal content.

Neon White E3

Neon White Episode 2 ended with a very shocking bang. One that left me jonesing for the next book to read and see where things would go from there. This one picks up right where Episode 2 left off but instead of Raven’s POV, we get mostly Jessy’s. Things are really heating up, though, because not only is Raven dead but Jessy’s made it her mission to figure out who killed him and her number one suspect is Chetlér.

I still enjoyed this one because I just absolutely adore the world but my biggest issue was Jessy. I found her extremely annoying and her attitude in this book was so different than how she was in Episode 2. In this one, she was a snooty, bitchy female whereas before she was timid but sort of a cute, geeky know-it-all. Unfortunately, she’s no longer cute and geeky but a royal pain in the ass. I just didn’t like her attitude at all and didn’t like that a majority of the story was about her when I just wanted to learn more about Raven and Chetlér. Beyond that, though, I feel like there’s just too many side stories for the length of each episode. If maybe each episode focused on one problem, it’d be okay but this one has three, four different situations in 62 pages that just made it too chaotic and didn’t give any of the conflicts much time to develop.

In the end, I still liked getting back into this serial but I wished it had less Jessy in it and more of Raven and Chetlér. I didn’t find her life to be very entertaining and found her attitude to be even less amusing. She was just a bitch, IMO, and definitely not an intriguing one. Still, I”m hoping future stories go back to Raven and Chetlér’s life so we can see where things go from here.

Tension Mounting

Because episode 2 ended on a cliffhanger I moved straight on to the third instalment only to have to wait before finding out what had happened to Raven. Not that the story before we get to Raven’s lot wasn’t fascinating and equally enthralling but I was on the edge of my seat until I learned more about what had happened to Raven, only to discover he no longer is the Raven we have gotten to know and love in the first two episodes.

Meanwhile Bla’Gar has a personal and new set of problems to deal with because the young alpha he’s been protecting and taking care off has disappeared without a trace.

Raven’s transformation forces Bla’Gar to cooperate with Jessy’s, Raven’s co-enforcer which means the young woman has to overcome a hatred she’d felt all her life and accept new truths. Meanwhile James, the man Jessy spends the night with, isn’t quite what he seems either; is he even human at all?

To say the tension rises in this episode does not do the story or the author justice. Where the first two instalments gripping and exciting, this one doesn’t let up from start to finish. Everything I thought I knew about this story and these characters has been thrown up in the air and, as yet, I have no idea where they’re going to land because this book, wait for it, ends on not one but two cliffhangers. And, I’ve run out of luck because book four isn’t available yet. I’ll probably grumble about having to wait but I can honestly say that despite my intense dislike of cliffhangers, the way this book ended did not affect my enjoyment of the story at all.

I just hope the author will get the rest of the story to us sooner rather than later. I’ll be one-clicking that one the second it goes live.

Love this series!

Ok, I’ll admit it. I’m a little bit in love with Wulf Francú Godgluck, as are a lot of fans around the world. If you haven’t fallen in love with his dark stories yet, you need to read them. If you’ve been following my reviews of Neon White, it won’t come as any surprise that I loved this installment as much as the previous ones.

Episode Three picks up immediately after the end of Episode Two. Raven has just been killed by a vampire….or has he? He is dead and he is in the morgue, so all signs point that way. His fellow Enforcer, Jessy thinks she knows who is responsible. It has to be Freshán Chetlér, the Demon Bla’Gar. Jessy’s unbridled hatred for all things Demon says it has to be. But along the way Jessy might just learn some things about Bla’Gar, herself, and that hot little twink she has had her eye on at work.

There is also a side story in this episode of Seth, the Alpha Lycan. It seems that Seth disappeared into thin air, right after Lucas mated him. There is a teaser at the end of the book hinting where Seth is, so make sure you don’t stop reading when you get to the “to be continued”!

I’ve spoken to the author, and there only a couple more “Episodes” in this “Season”, titled Neon White. I so want them NOW! He also has his next “Season”, Neon Black, already in the planning stages. I highly recommend this Episode and the whole series. It is best read in order, as the installments flow into each other. I went back this morning and re-read both Episode 1 and Episode 2 prior to reading Episode 3. I again loved them all.

Basile, a Chemical Engineer, is a senior Researcher at the ITM-CNR where is responsible of the researches related to both the ultra-pure hydrogen production CO2 capture using Pd-based Membrane Reactors. Angelo Basile’s h-index is 36, with 187 document results (April 1st, 2016, www.scopus.com). He has 130 scientific papers in peer to peer journals and 230 papers in international congresses; editor/author of 27 scientific books and 80 chapters on international books on membrane science and technology; 6 Italian patents, 2 European patents and 5 worldwide patents. He is referee of 92 international scientific journals and Member of the Editorial Board of 18 of them. Basile is also Editor associate of the Int. J. Hydrogen Energy and Editor-in.-chief of the Int. J. Membrane Science & Technol. and Editor-in-chief of Membrane Processes (Applications), a section of the international journal Membranes: Basile also prepared 25 special issues on membrane science and technology for many international journals (IJHE, Chem Eng. J., Cat. Today, etc.). He participated to and was/is responsible of many national and international projects on membrane reactors and membrane science. Basile served as Director of the ITM-CNR during the period Dec. 2008 - May 2009. In the last years, he was tutor of 30 Thesis for master and Ph.D. students at the Chemical Engineering Department of the University of Calabria (Italy). Form 2014, Basile is Full Professor of Chemical Engineering Processes.
