This was great. I've been a Christian since childhood, but over the past few years I've been far from exemplary. This devotional helped be so much getting back on the right path and appreciating the hardships and discontent I had been suffering from. Now I welcome the challenges as I know they make me a stronger Christian and that they're there to shape me into the person God wants me to be.

About the Author
David Jenkins was educated at Merton College, Oxford and the London School of Economics. After an initial spell in public relations he moved into industry, working as a manager in project, manufacturing and marketing roles in aerospace and polymer processing. He then spent several years as head of management studies at South West London college. In 1986, having worked as an advisor to a multinational manufacturer of elevators and a Swedish car maker, he set up TEK Associates, a small consultancy to assist organizations in finding better ways of improving and measuring their performance. Measuring Performance is his fourth book.

About the Author
Graham Jones has more than 35 years experience in the broadcast industry. With NAB he works on advanced television issues, technical standards, education and training. He is a member of both ATSC and SMPTE engineering committees. Previously he was Engineering Director for the Harris/PBS DTV Express - the educational road show that introduced DTV to many U.S. broadcasters. He started his career with the BBC in London, and has worked as a consultant to broadcasters in many parts of the world. He holds a degree in physics, is a chartered electrical engineer, and is a member of the IEE, SMPTE, SBE and the Royal Television Society. In 2004 he received the Bernard J. Lechner Outstanding Contributor Award from the Advanced Television Systems Committee.

From one who teaches Broadcast Engineering...

I teach Radio/Television Broadcasting (along with being Director of Engineering, CMAT) at a State University. I read this book and many others trying to find the perfect book to use in the B'cast Engineering courses I teach here. This book is by far the best I've ever seen for the beginner to novice Engineer. I started my B'cast career in 1978 -- I wish this book would have been around then, or even during my first 5 years!!! It's written in simple terms making it easy to understand, yet completely covers the subject to the most technical aspects. If you're majoring in Communications and have an eye on the technical side, GET THIS BOOK!

More like a dictionary

I was expecting a little bit of how-to in this book but it definitely is not that. It basically is an expanded dictionary of terms used in the broadcast industry. It includes a few diagrams such as a flow chart of Master Control. Meant for total outsiders to the industry. Best suited for a broadcast school where a person has no idea what broadcasting is all about.

Great history lesson!

This book is valuable for any non-engineer wanting to get up to speed on understanding a lot of forms of electronic communications. It obviously covers broadcast, but also new video technologies and audio/radio. The author does a great job laying a historical foundation of the different medias and then brings it all current. I found it to be a valuable read. This book is so good, that after my wife sold my copy during a garage sale, I later went out and purchased another copy to have in my library.

Good, but grossly overdone

This book made it point in the first 3 chapters. They also add useless software to drive the price up. Their coverage of basic marketing and the 4 P's is done ok but the book just drags on and on. Their readable examples are great. What they need is minimal theory, lots of examples and NO SOFTWARE in a 200 page book for $19.95. Then this would be a good book.

About the Author
Leo Treitler, Distinguished Professor of Music at the City University of New York, is the author of Music and the Historical Imagination, as well as other books and articles on music historiography and medieval music.

Robert P. Morgan, historian, composer, and theorist, received his Ph.D. from Princeton University and is currently on the music faculty at Yale University.

Definitive Collection

Like the previous 6 volumes in this series, vol. 7 is the definitive collection of musical essays from this time period. Deciding what to include in this volume must have been a very difficult task since there is so much more material available from the 20th century than from previous time periods; and since the editors produced this volume so chronologically near the 20th century, it is impossible to know which readings will "stand the test of time." Yet Robert Morgan has done an outstanding job editing this volume (and Leo Treitler as general editor) to include a wide range of relavent materials. This is an excellent resouce for anyone who wants to learn more (or teach) about music in the 20th century. Don't try to read it front to back. Instead, read whichever essays look most interesting to you first, and save the rest until they become those that look the most interesting.

This book is proving to be an invaluable resource for discussions about 20th century music. It is interesting (of oftentimes amusing) to read about how people were reacting to various trends happening at the time. Definitely a must if you are studying 20th century music/music history!
