There isn't much else out there for Riverbed.

$9 for what is basically a large whitepaper is ridiculous. The content was good for a whitepaper, terrible for a book. Lots of high level not much detail. Unfortunately, there really isn't anything else out there that I've found.

Should have read first

Not having read anything by this author, I began reading this series without quite knowing what to expect. I had saved them all to read for an upcoming vacation, however, couldn't stand the temptation and began to read.... and read, I did! Once I started, I could not stop - from one book to the other.

This is a refreshingly written series of the Highlander Clans in Scotland. Each book has approximatly three sets of characters it focuses on, yet still interweaves others from past groups into the next. It slowly progresses through three generations. I could have kept on reading!

I enjoyed the way this author mixed the characters and the love stories. I enjoyed the fact that romance & love could be found without embarassing details. I also, liked how each title had a number in the series on it, making it easy to follow from one to the next.

When I first bought the other books, I missed this one in the group, so I didn't read it until last. It should be read first, because it gives the back ground of how this particular clan got started.

Although not a major literary piece, this group of books is thoroughly enjoyable and filled with intersting details of the time period. For this reason, I have given them ALL a five star rating!

As a "saga" I thought this book was just ok, and easy to read.

As a "romance", this book was a big disappointment. The two g r a d u a l l y and s l o w l y, fall in love as teenagers. The day they admit their love, he is kidnapped and sold into slavery. The next 2+ years is about him being a slave, nothing about her life.

the book description states someone is trying to kill the beloved laird. Unfortunately, the author lets you know from the start who that someone is. And its all talk and "plans", I dont remember an actual attempt being made on his life. There was absolutely no mystery or intrigue.

I read this after I had read all the rest of her Highlander series. It just proved to be another great book. I am a big fan of Marti's, and devour any of her Highlander books. I love the fact that they capture my attention, but are clean so I don't have to worry about any smut throwing me a curve ball when I'm least expecting it. As soon as I find out that there's another book in this series, I purchase it and am in book heaven.

A Japanese CD Book, including 25 pieces of Final Fantasy sheet music specifically arranged for the guitar. The cd has Yuji Sekiguchi performing the same pieces in the book, as a kind of audio sampler. The book also has pages it calls "One point advice" between each song, giving tips on playing the songs and a full Final Fantasy Discography at the end; all in Japanese of course.

Great BOOK!

A total of 120 pages arrange and performed by Yuji Sekiguchi and of course composed and supervised by Nobuo Uematsu!
Titles are mostly written in Japanese and the description as well. Some black and White pictures of the songs.

The book has the measures of beats and Tabs, also some chord chart directions help.
I bought 4 New books out of total 8 available for purchase from Visual Japan.
Delivered in a large white enveloped and inside the 4 books is wrapped nicely in a bubble wrap.
Two came in perfect condition and the other two came with a 1/4" crumpled at the bottom right corner of the book on all half total pages. Each book cost about $37 to $38.50 with delivery charge $3.99 each.
Came with a thank you card a pretty origami and tiny mouse and cat stickers on the receipt and bubble wrap.

But little Gabrielle Chanel was raised in an orphanage and schooled in a convent--having lost her mother and been virtually abandoned by her father. She picked up the nickname Coco when she was a young cabaret singer--"Ko Ko Rik Ko" ("Cock-a-doodle-do") being the only song she could sing. Those early years of deprivation fueled her lifelong pursuits of strong, doting men and, more famously, high fashion. After she spent years making her own clothes, hats were the first Chanel designs to earn her some recognition and a little bit of money. Bankrolled by a wealthy boyfriend--her first of many--and worn by famous opera singers, the hats--which liberated women from the complicated and extravagantly festooned headgear of the early 1900s--were the first of Chanel's many successful fashion innovations. She borrowed heavily from men's closets, belting their jackets and sweaters and pairing them with skirts to make comfortable suits for working women. She pioneered pants as eveningwear for women and invented clothing that could be worn during the day and into the night. A crisp white collar, perhaps a reference to her convent days, was a common element in her designs. She decorated her unstructured Jersey knits with pearl necklaces and faux jewels and furs so that, despite their comfort, her clothes were always luxurious. As her design empire and fame grew, so did Coco Chanel's social circle. Igor Stravinsky, the duke of Westminster, Salvador Dali, and Jean Cocteau numbered among her most intimate friends, while Princess Grace and countless Hollywood stars and European royalty were devoted to her clothes.

Some of the more intriguing details, involving the designer's failure in Hollywood and her romantic and financial connections with the Nazis, suggest a complex, calculating, passionate woman. I have always been fascinated by whatever's written about her ever since I received a Chanel purse for an 18th birthday present. There have been a number of books written about Chanel, I'm sure but Janet Wallach's will not disappoint any reader. It is simple and elegantly written with beautiful black and white illustrations. Even if one is not a fan of Chanel's style, you will be intrigued by her notorious life as told here. Either for yourself or a friend, a nice book to keep and look through now and again.

A great insight into the life of Chanel

Undoubtedly, this is a great book. The illustrations and photographs alone are worth the hefty price tag. The use of wording and the excitement in the authors "tone" provides one with great visions and imagery of her escapades and adventures.
The details are pretty good...however, there are, at times, several bits of information written about Chanel that is not accurate. Having read dozens of books and just about anything and everything ever printed about Mademoiselle, it struck a chord knowing that many people will read this book and believe that is the way certain things happened in her life, be it what she said or did, or did not do. And while it may not have necessarily meant to be a comprehensive, didactic text, allow yourself the pleasure of reading several books about Chanel to get a better understanding of one of the greatest women of all time.

A beautiful edition,at last, the pictures and life together!

For the first time we can see the story of Coco Chanel's life and the style it inspired side by side, in an elegantly produced, reasonably priced volume. Chanel called herself the first 20th century woman, and the fact that the way women dress today is due to her understanding of women, her independence and her fascinating life unfolds in Janet Wallach's narrative. Surely this is the least expensive Chanel one can buy and keep forever.

It has been rewritten throughout, is differently organized, and goes into greater depth on many topics that were in the old edition.

This classic text provides a comprehensive exposition of the concepts and techniques of quantum mechanics. The phenomena treated are sufficiently simple to allow the student to readily assess the validity of the models so that attention is not deflected from the heart of the subject. To that end, the book concentrates on systems that can either be solved exactly or be handled by well-controlled, plausible approximations. With few exceptions, this means systems with a small number of degrees of freedom. The exceptions are many―electron atoms, the electromagnetic field and the Dirac equation. The inclusion of the last two topics reflects the belief that every physicist should now have some knowledge of these cornerstones of modern physics.

This new edition has been completely revised and rewritten throughout, but retains the clarity and readability of the first edition.

Born in Vienna, Kurt Gottfried emigrated to Canada in 1939 and received his Ph.D. in theoretical physics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1955. He is a professor emeritus of physics at Cornell University, and had previously been at Harvard University and at CERN in Geneva, Switzerland. He is the coauthor of Concepts of Particle Physics (with V.F. Weisskopf) and of Crisis Stability and Nuclear War. Gottfried has done research in both nuclear and particle physics; he has an active interest in arms control and human rights and is a founder and currently the Chair of the Union of Concerned Scientists.

Tung-Mow Yan, originally from Taiwan, received his Ph.D. in theoretical physics from Harvard University in 1968. He has been a member of the Cornell University faculty since 1970 after spending two years as a research associate at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center. He has conducted research in many areas of elementary particle physics.

Not for the uninitiated!!!

This is a high level, formal treatment of quantum mechanics. It is very elegant and there are many things in this book that are not covered in many other grad level quantum text books. For example, the nice treatment of the Kepler problem using F+, F- operators, a lengthy discussion of the interpration of QM/entangled states, etc, or a good treatment of the Landau levels in both symmetric and landau gauge. The emphasis on the ideas of the rotation group, Wigner-Eckhart, etc are also very nice. However, user beware, the textbook skips steps, sometimes lacks clarity, and may assume mathematics and quantum that you dont have yet. This is not a casual read. You should have a piece of paper in front of you to work through the steps. But I can assure you that in the end it is very worthwhile and gives you a glimpse into what makes quantum mechanics very beautiful and elegant.

If you have read Griffiths before this you may not be prepared. Try Shankar first then move onto this book.

This is the most complete book on the fundamentals of the quantum mechanics, it's focused on the theoretical foundations and too on the principal experimental facts behind the theory, but it's a graduate level, demanding some background on the wave mechanics often viewed at undergraduate courses on quantum mechanics...the beginning formal mathematical framework can be complemented by Sakurai's Modern Quantum Mechanics but the main theory there is no other book with the same level of insight and ingenuity. Highly recommended!

Graduate level quantum mechanics textbook with an emphasis on scattering theory

Gottfried was the primary textbook used in the two semester graduate level quantum mechanics course that I took as a graduate student almost forty years ago. My professor was a theorist in high energy physics, so naturally he chose a textbook with a strong emphasis on scattering theory. This is probably also the reason, as noted by the famous Irish quantum theorist John S. Bell, that the library at CERN had so many copies of Gottfried. See Bell's essay "Against measurement" in John S. Bell on the Foundations of Quantum Mechanics for this observation.

Chapters 12-17 (pp.94-164) provide an introduction to scattering theory in this 494 page book, which includes the definition of cross section, Born and Eikonal approximations, partial waves, the delta shell potential, resonance scattering, and the coulomb field. Chapter 40 deals with invariance principles as applied to scattering of spin 1/2 particles. Chapter 43 treats scattering of identical particles. Chapter 56 addresses scattering and transitions in a continuum. Chapter 57 considers collision phenomena in the Born approximation. Gottfried also does a good job in providing a large number of useful figures that relate to scattering. Some figures describe scattering geometry while others plot differential cross section as a function of scattering angle.

Although I found Gottfried to be a useful textbook for its treatment of scattering, I do consider it to be the most suitable introduction to quantum mechanics for first year physics graduate students. I prefer Schiff's Quantum Mechanics, with Baym's Lectures On Quantum Mechanics (Lecture Notes and Supplements in Physics) as a supplement. In particular, I prefer Schiff and Baym's treatment of the Dirac bra/ket notation.

About the Author

Philip Hasheider is a fifth-generation farmer raising pasture-grazed livestock with his wife and two children near Sauk City, Wisconsin. A former cheesemaker's assistant, his interests in agriculture and history have led him to write eleven books, including Voyageur Press' The Complete Book of Butchering, Smoking, Curing, and Sausage Making and The Hunter's Guide to Butchering, Smoking, and Curing Wild Game and Fish. He has also penned how-to books for raising livestock, which include How to Raise Pigs and How to Raise Cattle. Hasheider has written numerous articles for national and international dairy breed publications, and his diverse work has appeared in the Wisconsin Academy Review, the Capital Times, Wisconsin State Journal, Sickle & Sheaf, and Old Sauk Trails.

A Revealing Farm to Table Education

This book offers the reader a very revealing look at the skill, expertise and investment required in order to produce the pork meat products we tend to take for granted in our grocer's refrigerated meat cases. Whether or not you agree that butchering is the best way for humans to obtain some of their food sources, Philip Hasheider presents a strong case that healthy and humane treatment of pigs is essential to the process. We were amazed to discover that the initial investment for raising just one pig tops $800! This book offers a very revealing look at how producers get pork from farm to table, along with a wide array of recipes utilizing everything from bacon, pig bladder, and pig knuckles to pork tenderloin and ham.
